I was in San Diego for a week and being so close to the border it seemed silly not to take a trip to Tijuana.
Carlos was our guide and he was excellent - easy to talk to, informative and helpful, suggesting things for us to do. It was only myself and one other person on the tour so the tour felt tailored towards our interests rather than a generic set of stops.
Getting to the border on the trolley bus was easy and Carlos was easily identifiable with a Border Tours shirt and lanyard.
Getting through the border was straightforward and then we caught a taxi-bus into Tijuana. We were taken to a museum covering the history and culture of Tijuana, then the main cathedral as well as a local market and a bar to sample local craft beers (I don't drink but it was still interesting).
After lunch (excellent quesadillas) we were taken to the Museo Del Coleccionista De Tijuana which is also the Museo de La Lucha Libre Mexicana - these were truly excellent and different. It was especially good to visit a museum about a uniquely Mexican phenomenon.
The 5 hours flew by and Carlos then took us back to the border. Crossing back was again straightforward.
I feel that we only scratched the surface of what Tijuana has to offer but as an initial introduction it covered everything I wanted.
Thanks again to Carlos for looking after us for the day.
