Dark History Tour In New Orleans

Overview
Ghosts, legends, and dark history – this is our most popular tour – a walk through the streets of the Old French Quarter, hearing the history of our city through the stories of its restless dead, it’s old legends, it’s great disasters, and unsolved murders. The stories are those that define our city and it’s people and most unsettling, it all really happened! The only tour in the city to focus on the Dark History of New Orleans--the things that made us what we are, but which the city council would just as soon not have you know! Led by pre-Katrina tour guides, and the only company in the city who features people who were licensed pre-Katrina and residents for decades.

Jonathan was not only knowledgeable, but passionate about his city. Facts and anecdotes abounded as we walked through the streets where the events actually happened. My family and I enjoyed this tour so much we booked Jonathan's ghost tour for another night during our visit to New Orleans.

Can I give this tour more than 5 stars ?! As someone who takes ALOT of tours in New Orleans I can say this may be my favorite one yet. Doug is the most perfect down to earth guide with a true interest in his topics. You will get so many amazing (and not made up) stories about New Orleans without ever feeling like you are in a lecture. And if interested more in a topic, he will happily guide you on where to find additional information. This tour takes you off Bourbon Street into what used to be a very seedy district with an incredible past. It was refreshing to get a tour that toyed around with different types of stories ranging from politics, murder, even famous people you may have heard of today. Not your cup of tea? Don't worry there are pretty buildings to look at and wild characters of Frenchman to discover. And bars, did I mention bars? At no point do you feel trapped or look down to see when this walk will end. It is honestly like hearing part of a family history that Doug has done such a wonderful job to bring to light. I can't recommend this tour enough. We even strung along the boyfriends who let's just say weren't in New Orleans to do tours... they have said it was one of the highlights of their trip as well. Maybe they're just trying to get brownie points but I don't think so. You be the judge.

Took this tour as in intro to the French Quarter. Lots of interesting information provided as we walked through the area; provided a glimpse into a history quite different from the French Quarter today. Chose this tour from all the others because we were looking for a more authentic experience than the typical tourist offering and were not disappointed. Although our group was a bit larger than average for this tour, we were still a much smaller group than the others - and there was no umbrella leading us on. Mr. Weiss answered our many questions with a full knowledge of this city that he obviously cares for very much. Would recommend that anyone looking for a more personal, less "touristy" tour take this one.
