This boat and island tour is very enjoyable and with Captain Pete as a guide, extremely informative. The boat ride to the island, the day we went, was quite windy but we pulled along side various natural things and were able to see how oysters grew and were harvested. We also saw dolphins and white pelicans. The golf cart tour of the island was bumpy but informative. Unfortunately the prices for the artisan pieces are way out of line so no one on our tour bought anything. The boat ride back was very cold and very rough. When we got back to shore, I could hardly climb the ramp, it was so steep because of low tide. It would seem that with a 1 pm departure, that some thought might have been given to being able to buy food on the island and not just to rely on some terrible granola bars. Dress warmly and in layers. In the late winter, a touque and gloves might be a good idea.

We had an excellent guide who drove us around on a large golf cart. He was a lifelong resident of the area and very knowledgeable about the culture of the island and of its Gullah history. We visited some artisan workshops and had an opportunity to buy some beautiful pottery among other things. It was about an hour boat trip from Hilton Head to Daufuskie on a small boat which passed many extensive oyster beds.

Captain/historian Pete was excellent. Provided a very informative and interesting commentary while he captained the boat and drove the golf cart around the island. Disappointed that there were only 2 artisans as part of the tour though. (PS the light snacks are a granola bar or an apple)

Captain Pete sure does know his island history and loves sharing it. As the artisans that live on Daufuskie come and go, some days bring more visits than others. It really depends on their day to day life. We're thrilled you enjoyed the trip and look forward to getting you out again. Abby, PR Manager [email protected]
