What To Expect

Charleston City Market

Our Barn is located just off of the Charleston City Market. You will meet your certified tour guide here and then you will depart on your hour long horse or mule drawn carriage tour. The carriage will go through the City gate at the market where the tour guide is assigned a tour route. You will see about 30 blocks of the historic district which will include beautiful architecture, churches, buildings, gardens and more. The tour returns to the Big Red Barn.

Tom and Jerry the horses pulled Billy our human guide, and our carriage through a delightful one hour tour of Charleston. We lucked out in the lotteries for both weather and routing, with temperatures in the mid-70s and a route which is chosen for you randomly by the city in order to avoid having Every Carriage in Charleston in the Same Place at the Same Time. Because of this, your tour may not go to the same areas as ours did. We'd chosen to take a carriage tour to allow our Mama, who's in her 80's, to see the sights of Charleston. Chose Palmetto based on a review in a tour guidebook naming it one of the best in the city. We got History, Humour and Hospitality! Thank you!

The tour company was very accommodating by allowing me to sit in back as I am allergic to horses. This allowed me to really enjoy the tour. Guide (Rob?) was very knowledgable and up to date on current info about some of houses. We bought tickets as combo with Harbor Cruise. All was very well organized.

We had a wonderful ride with Matthew. My mother, sisters and son all enjoyed it. Matthew was funny, intelligent, engaging and full of interesting trivia. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.
