This was a terribly disappointing trip. Not much to see and slow, uninteresting ride in very slow vehicle. Just went out a couple of miles and then turned around. Couldn't really see anything. Only decent part of trip was dialogue from Brad about history of mining and Into the Wild. This boring trip was not worth the money or the time. To make matters worse we had to get up really early for the 6:40 am pickup.

I love Alaska and it has become my favorite vacation destination. This year I decided to try something different and sign up for the Denali Backcountry Safari. From hotel room to hotel room, it was about 4.5 hours. We were driven by shuttle van from Denali to a remote (but posh) "camp" at the end of the Stampede Road. From there, we got on board a Pinzgauer 6x6, a refurbished European Army truck that took us past the end of the easy road and deep down some forgotten mining trails. If you are familiar with the Book or Movie "Into the Wild" it's the same trail that Christopher's McCandless hiked out to the Magic Bus. The safari truck was driven by a knowledgeable guide. She has spent years living in remote Alaska and was a wealth of knowledge about the mining history of the area, the wildlife (we saw a mama moose and two baby moose), and more. She kept the tour fun and informative and was pretty great at driving the rig down the trail, too. At the end, we got back to the camp where Alaskan Brats and Blueberry Popcorn made for a tasty snack. The trip back to the hotel was pleasant and the shuttle driver was nice and informative as well. This trip is well worth the cost and I'd recommend it for all ages.

The Denali Backcountry Safari tour from Stampede Excursions is an amazing tour with knowledgeable, friendly and attentive staff and owners. The attention to details for every client only enhances your experiences. Brad and Jordan are creative in developing plans to meet the needs of novice to seasoned travelers. Sightseeing flights, exploring Denali, off-road adventures or arranging unique itineraries from the Aleutians to Nome and beyond is their forte. I would highly recommend this company for their expertise in all facets of your journey.
