What an awesome trip. The tour company picked us up at our hotel and transported us to the location where the Jeeps were located and assigned us a blue Jeep. No one picked their own color. My husband and I scored a vehicle with just the two of us, and he did all the driving. I note on the form you can pick to drive or just ride. We had a small sprint of "town" driving, and then we were in the back country, and it was beautiful. We did spy a moose and her baby, and then later another moose was spotted, but we did not see that one. The guide did rearrange the Jeeps to let those in the back have an opportunity to spot wildlife, but because there was a bad rainstorm on the day we went, we did not see any other wildlife. We kept in contact with the lead Jeep and the rest of the tourists by some form of CB radio in the cars. The guide kept up a funny banter about her experiences in Alaska, and everyone could speak on the CB if there was something they wanted to add. The only mobility you need is to be able to get out of a bus and into a Jeep. There were snacks and a drink at a midway spot and an opportunity to use a port-a-potty. This is an Alaska that I believe not many are able to see. On the way back, the road was washing out in spots, but I still felt safe with my husband driving. As a note, this rain was so bad, that my trip the next day to raft the Talkeetna River was canceled, and I only add that so you understand why we only saw the three moose. I wish the weather would have been better, but, even so, this excursion was still fantastic, and I would do it again.
