We felt this excursion was a waste of money. We bought it from the ship and it was scheduled for 6pm. We were taken in covered jeeps down the Denali highway which was touted as one of the most scenic highways. Unfortunately we did not agree with that description. We visited in September and found that it was hunting season for moose therefore we only saw one moose way down in a river area. If possible do not take this excursion in the evening, take it during the day. There is one stop for restroom break and some snacks provided but overall too expensive for what we got out of it.

We took this trip as an excursion and was excited to get to go see such scenic locations. We booked the afternoon trip and was disappointed. The trip was rushed due to it getting darker earlier in the evening. We were not able to stop to get some nice sunset pictures on the way back, but our driver was not willing to call over the cb and say we would be stopping to capture several sunset pictures. The last hour of our trip was in dark so we didn't see any thing except darkness. I feel like the cb narrative of the lead driver was good but getting back to where we started was rushed from the start of the tour. The landscapes we seen was beautiful and we did get to ride on the Denali Hwy.

Denali Highway Jeep Tour Disclaimer: Be aware this is a drive yourself trip. The vehicles are 4 passenger Jeep Wranglers. This tour takes you part way eastward on the Denali highway, the only way to get to Denali Park until the Park Highway was built. As it is 120 miles from east to west and only a gravel road, you really had to be determined to visit. They will pick you up at any of the major lodging spots in the park, or at their office on the "Boardwalk" across from the main lodging areas, then drive south on Park Highway to their boarding area. There you are processed in and assigned to the Jeeps, all different colors and with cute names like "Moose", "Carybo", you get the picture. Once loaded up a lead guide heads up the column while a co-guide follows in the rear. Each Jeep is equipped with a radio and the lead guide provides commentary about the landscape rolling past. What you see is dependent on the weather, you may see Denali, other mountains may have clouds obscuring their peaks, some ranges will have rain at one end and sunshine at the other. Alex and Nick did a wonderful job of keeping us together, finding wildlife, moose were sighted, but moved off before the entire column could view it. What was unexpected was the snack breaks, both in the middle and end, a nice touch. We were glad to have experienced it and would do it again when in the area. Now that you have read this far, note that if you do not wish to drive, have your booking agent make a request that you ride with a guide.
