Denali National Park
Instead of the big bus tours, explore the park your way! Take a selfie at the park sign, explore the Denali National Park Visitor Center, tour historic buildings, venture down hiking trails, and visit the park’s own sled dogs at the Denali kennels. Traversing the  the entire accessible road to the Savage River affords views of Denali (Mount McKinley) as well as frequent sightings of moose, caribou, bears, and a myriad of other critters. Expect a 40 mile round trip which allows extra time for exploring the park’s attractions.
3
Denali Highway
Before the “new” highway between Anchorage and Fairbanks was finished in the 1970’s, the Denali Highway stretching from Paxson to Cantwell was the only way to reach Denali National Park by road. Still just a seldom-traveled gravel roadway today, it is renowned for picturesque alpine landscapes and untouched wilderness. This scenic byway was recently ranked #2 worldwide as the “Drive of a Lifetime” by National Geographic Traveler magazine. Besides the ability to view Denali (Mount McKinley) from numerous points, travelers will likely see wildlife along the route. Expect an 80 mile round trip.

I was a little confused about this. I thought you could go places with this Jeep that you could not go in your own vehicle. We already had a rental so this was a waste of money for us but staff was very friendly. We had fun though and learned a lesson. Would definitely recommend if you didn’t have a rental car. Only thing I would change is the map or lack of. It’s just lines and with the fear of $199 a hour if your late made us Leary about exploring to far.

A group of 4 of us decided to do this excursion to see more of Alaska. We work up in Denali for the summer and on our days off we want to explore more. So we decided we wanted to see the whole Denali Highway. I looked into renting a vehicle. All of the vehicle rental places in Alaska will tell you in large print "RENTAL CARS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE DENALI HIGHWAY." So we found Stampede Excursions and they have the Denali Self-Guided Jeep Safari and they allow their jeeps to drive on the Denali highway. I was really excited that it was a self-guided tour because then we could stop whenever we wanted to for pictures. So we didn’t need to be held up with a guide and other people trying to take thousands of pictures. The scenery was really nice lots to see. We where able to see lakes, ponds, mountains, three different glaciers, the tundra, wildlife and it was spectacular! We where told that we where not guaranteed to see animals but we know wildlife is wild. But we got to see ptarmigans, robin’s, swan’s, moose, ground squirrel’s and some snowshoe hares. Also we picked blueberries!! It was cloudy day with a little bit of rain in some parts. But we could not have asked for a more beautiful day. I will recommend this tour to those who are in the area that would like to explore the Denali Highway.

We had hoped for what was stated as off road jeep excursion. We merely drove down highways we could have driven in our own car.
