I wasn’t going to leave a review at all for the Vera Marie but I received an email asking for one. The boat was crowded but I was expecting that, but for a guided charter it was under staffed. I helped other paying customers untangle their lines more than I saw the workers doing it. But that’s not what made me decide to leave a negative review. I was there with my son and 3 others. We were instructed if we caught a fish to reel it up and let it hang over the edge, yell fish on and wait for a worker to identify, length the fish, remove it from your line, and if it’s a keeper put it in your numbered cooler. One of the people in my group caught a fish that looked to me to be a red snapper, Well after waiting quite a while with the fish hanging for a worker the fish lost quite a bit of color. Once a worker showed up he said “what is that!” Unhooked the fish and walked of, came back moments later and threw it in our cooler. Towards the end of the trip at the back of the boat the Skipper was going through coolers and tallying fish, he came to ours and found the red snapper and measured it as too short and immediately started saying that the nerve of someone trying to sneak an undersized fish in their cooler and was instantly blaming the paying customer for trying to be deceitful on his boat. I did enlighten him that it was his worker that didn’t even know what the fish was and he put it in the cooler. The skipper walked away, not even offering an apology for bad mouthing the customer when it was his worker that made the mistake.
