Destrehan Plantation Tour

Overview
Located just 25 minutes from New Orleans and 10 minutes away from the New Orleans International Airport, Destrehan Plantation is the oldest documented plantation home in the Lower Mississippi Valley. It is also the only plantation accessible by rideshare or taxi. Our tours are rich in political, social and economic history. After the tour, guests can view a folk-life demonstration, visit our 1811 Slave Revolt Exhibit, explore the grounds, picnic under a live oak tree draped in Spanish Moss and shop in our Plantation Store for unique hand-made items by local craft artisans. Our tour guide Beverly was very informative and gave a very impressive presentation about the history and culture of the plantation and the surrounding area. Ann was also extremely knowledgeable and presented to us the story of the 1811 slave revolt. They both answered with great detail every question we had. What a great asset Beverly and Ann are to the River Road Historical Society.
