Distillery Tour

Overview
Join us for a one-hour guided tour of J. Rieger & Co., Kansas City’s iconic distillery, located in the historic Electric Park neighborhood of the East Bottoms district. Discover the history of our brand, from its founding during the wild and raucous years when the city boasted “the wettest block in the world”, to its premature demise at the dawn of Prohibition, and eventual revival in 2014, nearly a century later.

Enjoy extensive access to each phase of the distillation process, from grain to bottle. The tour will conclude with a tasting of our four core products led by one of our knowledgeable guides.

The renovation of the Heim Brewery in East Bottoms is immaculate. We booked the tour for the week it was opened to the public (August 2nd, 6:30 p.m.) - and it's clear that every detail has been carefully thought through. The informative video at the beginning of the tour is well-produced and entertaining. Despite the "newness" of the tour, our tour guide was smooth and answered any questions with knowledge. Our ticket included four tastes in the beautiful tasting room and a cocktail in the upstairs bar. The metal slide from the upstairs down to the entrance is a fun touch! The HEY HEY Room will be *the* place to be when it opens in September. Our tour guide gave us lingerers after the tour a sneak peek! :-) This is located behind (south) of Knuckleheads. **TIP FOR DRIVING** either approach the J. Rieger from the south or go over the train tracks to the east of the distillery via the Chestnut bridge, or you can/will get stuck from stand-still trains if trying to take the most direct route - we waited about 12 minutes before we found another way around. Also remember, you need closed-toed shoes for the tour. CHEERS to Ryan Maybee and the team for another KC gem!!

I've been on distillery tours before, but never one that had such a strong connection to the place and history of the area. The tour length was perfect, the level of info was informative without being too detailed, and of course the tasting room was great, as were the drinks after. The setting is phenomenal, and the slide makes a perfect exit from a fun experience.

Highly recommend! You get 4 tastings and a drink after the tour which makes it 100% worth it. New addition looks great, guide was friendly and easy going, drinks were the best and this is awesome KC history almost lost,,,,,back with a vengeance. You must do the slide! Loved the plants all over, great decorating and design.
