While anyone can just go to any one of the many breweries in Asheville and grab a flight of beers for a taste of the local brews, if you would like some education regarding the making of beer, history, different tastes, etc., take Cliff's Brew-ed tour. We did the Saturday 2-5PM tour of 3 breweries, all within 10 minutes of each other (make sure to eat a decent meal before; the pours are pretty good sized). Group of 11 people; perfect size to be able to follow and hear what Cliff was saying at all times. EXTREMELY knowledgeable about all things beer; he is also a cicerone, which is to beer what a sommelier is to wine. If you would like to spend 3 hours on a Saturday afternoon, as we did, savoring the beer experience, as opposed to chugging it, and learning something, HIGHLY recommend this tour.

I did this tour with my wife and a friend and we all had a great time. Cliff, our guide is very friendly and knowledgeable in beer and interesting facts about Asheville history. He took us to 3 breweries that had distinct styles of beer which he then explained the nuances between the styles. He was open to questions and interactive throughout the tour that lasted a little over 3 hours. The walking portion was very light as all 3 breweries were very close to one another and in my opinion all the beer was delicious. I highly recommend a BREW-ed tour for a nice taste of Ashevillle.

Cliff's BREW-ed tour was the perfect way to spend a gorgeous afternoon in Asheville. He is very personable and extremely knowledgeable. This type of beer tour is for someone who enjoys tasting different types of craft beers while also enjoying the history of how the beer came to be and the proper way to taste beer (this isn't a beer chugging contest). The group was only 10 people, so it was nice to be able to be in a smaller group setting, talk to Cliff and ask him questions. He also provides a little history on Asheville along the walk. While I was feeling pretty good at the end of the tour (I planned ahead and had a DD), this is not a wild party tour (which I liked). That being said, the tour was still fun and a great way to spend 2 hours of my afternoon in Asheville. Go see Cliff!
