I've been a fan of the Fremont St. area since the mid-70's and have experienced the many changes that have taken place over the years. I eventually moved to Las Vegas in 2003, and now frequently eat & gamble in the various casino hotels in the downtown area. I really enjoyed this walking tour and all that our tour guide, Kelly, had to show & tell us about. He is very knowledgeable about the past and included many cool facts about all that's happened downtown since the early days. He included some of the recent & upcoming plans for changes that I hadn't known about, and overall, this was a very informative, pleasant & fun stroll along Fremont Street. Having our own ear buds made it very easy to hear everything Kelly had to say. My out of town guest really enjoyed this experience, and I will be sure to take other visitors on this tour in the future.

We did the downtown and Fremont St. history walking tour and had a terrific time while learning a lot. Apparently only 5% of visitors to Las Vegas venture to the downtown where it all started, but we're missing out (I've been to Las Vegas MANY times but missed this area before this trip). There's a lot of interesting history, plenty of cool neon and kitsch, a few great bargain hotels and meals, and the emerging tragically hip area with a tidal wave of new young entrepreneurs following the lead of Tony Hsieh & Zappos. The energy is great. I very highly recommend this tour as something different and a great way to add some context that will enrich my appreciation of Las Vegas as more than a synthetic product of our hedonistic drives (or at least come to sense that even a synthetic product of our hedonistic drives can develop a veneer of soul and history over time).

Old downtown Las Vegas is roaring back and a great way to learn what's going on is to book this economical walking tour. The tour leader is a fountain of historical information from the early days as a railroad stop, to Prohibition, the rise of the mob, Fremont Street of yesterday (with photographs) and today with a covered promenade, to the new end of the street which houses many, many startup companies. Did you know the Denny's downtown has a wedding chapel? The tour ends at Container Park which is a sustainable shopping attraction bringing together more than 30 small boutiques, galleries, bars and eateries. This is a wonderful walking tour.
