Early Myrtle Beach History and The WWII Years Trolley Tour

Overview
If you like history and want to know how Myrtle Beach was in the beginning and specifically during the years of the second world war, this trolley tour may interest you. It shares the city's origin story and tells what it was like to live there during WWII with U-boat threats off the coast and the arrival of German POWs. It makes stops at Myrtle Beach's first golf course, Pine Lakes International Country Club, and the Historic Myrtle Beach Colored School Museum. Guests gather in front of the Grand 14 Theater at The Market Common to begin boarding at 9:45 AM. The trolley is enclosed and climate-controlled. If you would like more of an introduction to the city's history, you may enjoy the Myrtle Beach History, Movies and Music trolley tour. Both tours were created to compliment each other in order to give guests a more comprehensive look at Myrtle Beach's past. GUESTS MUST BE AT LEAST 3 YEARS OLD FOR THIS TOUR. It is best that you book prior to the Monday before your desired tour.

The tour guide should get a high rating for her extensive history of Myrtle Beach. Perhaps more general would be acceptable also, to enable perhaps another 15 minutes to explore ā€œThe Colored Schoolā€ with its rich AfricanAmerican history. The day is very hot, increasingly so. Many people on the tour were senior citizens. Many with it’s chronc health conditions. Not acceptable that the windows were opened at beginning of tour-made the bus hotter. The AC was only blowing hot air. Oppressive. It was mentioned ā€œwe’ll adjust the temperature as we go along.ā€ That did not happen. It only got hotter. Had we known this we would not have gone on this tour. It is enough to make one ill actually.

It is devasting that this tour that I love to share with my guests was ruined by a glitch in the AC that worsened. I've reported the incident to the trolley provider in an effort to prevent this from happening again. I want nothing more than my guests to enjoy our local history and I am deeply sorry that the circumstances didn't allow for that.

I am not a native but I have been here 30 years. Yet I learned many things about Myrtle Beach that I didn't know and saw many places I had never been. Our guide Kathryn was amazing and I plan to do all the other tours. One thing, bring a jacket as the trolley was chilly!

Thanks so much. I enjoy sharing some of the lesser known aspects of WWII that impacted our local history.
