What To Expect

Pure Florida
The journey begins aboard the M/V Naples Explorer at Tin City which was originally a hub for fishing, clamming, and shellfish in the 1920s.  Today it is a thriving marketplace where you’ll find over 30 unique shops and restaurants. Once the captain has sounded the horn 4 times, it’s time to leave the dock.  As you begin the leisurely cruise down the Gordon River, past Crayton Cove, and through Naples Bay, you might think to yourself this is not an eco-tour because the river is lined with yacht clubs and exclusive communities like Port Royal where million dollar mansions are the norm. Even though it may seem like a tour of the rich and famous, there is plenty of dolphin activity for your viewing pleasure and it does not take long to get to where the magic of southwest Florida’s natural beauty thrives. Once you arrive to Keewaydin Island, take in a nature walk with your Captain, fill your shelling bag with beach treasures or take a moment to dip your toes in the water!  There are many ways to enjoy your time on the island.  While cruising, you will love moving freely throughout the boat to get the best view capturing memories that will last a lifetime!  A marine restroom is available on the M/V Naples Explorer.  Guests are welcome to bring their own small coolers with drinks and snacks.  This 3-hour experience will return you back to Tin City Waterside Shops where you can enjoy shopping in one of the 30 different unique shops or eating at one of the three delicious restaurants.  You can also walk to 5th Ave South, Naples most famous street, to enjoy more shopping or eating!

Excellent eco tour and dolphin cruise. We were able to view lots of birds including close up of nesting birds. The bald eagle was a nice addition, although a little far away. We stopped at a beach and picked up some really unique shells. On the way back we were able to get an up close view of all the beautiful homes on the water. The captain was knowledgeable and was able to answer our questions about dolphins and eagles.

Took the Eco Shelling Cruise to Keywaydin Island today. Captain Joey and his sidekick Brock were very personable and informative on our very relaxing trip out to the island. I always love seeing the million dollar homes on the water. that’s just a bonus to me. Saw lots of dolphins, ospreys and bald eagles, both going out to the island and on our return trip. Once on the island we shelled, swam, and walked. The 3 hours flew by! The kids on the tour seemed to enjoy themselves, as did the adults. If you want to go out on the ocean, walk a beautiful beach, and look for dolphins, I suggest you take this trip. Wear your bathing suit so you can swim in the crystal clear gulf!

If you are going on this trip for the birds, dolphins, and interesting talk about the mangroves, then you won't be disappointed. However, the shelling on this quiet island was not what we hoped for. The crew was not very helpful with identification of shells. They should have a field guide that we could use to identify shells. They have to be honest if they don't know what something is. Example: I found what they called a ray egg case. (I knew rays and sharks have mermaid's purses or something similar. I did my research at home and found out I found a horse conch egg case. Quite a difference! Just say "I don't know!"

Thanks for leaving a great review Diane! We are so glad that you had fun on our eco tour with us looking for wildlife and exploring our secluded beach. Shelling always changes on the island and there is no way to predict, whether it be from strong tides, storms, and a list of other factors. And sorry for the mistaken identity of your horse conch egg case, mistakes can always happen! Come back and see us again soon, and thanks for sharing!
