Smallwood Store

Step back in time and explore the historic Smallwoods Store Museum. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum stands frozen in time, a window to a bygone era when the store was the islands trading post and island life revolved around the activities here.

Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park

Nature Walk through a grove of ancient cypress trees out to a "gator hole" where female alligators have been nesting for decades.

Our guide, Mark, was very knowledgeable and friendly. We did get to see gators and dolphins but the part we were disappointed in was the time spent being shuttled around. It was a dreary/rainy day but besides the hour for lunch and the two, hour long boat rides, we were glued to the seats of the tour van. I guess I expected more of an active itinerary, especially since we had younger kids along but I was wrong. There also was a lot of waiting around which was a disappointment. It was a cool experience but once is more than enough.

You are justified in being disappointed and I sincerely apologize. I have responded to a similar complaint about the time in our van. Both reviews are in response to the tour that occurred on June 17th which did not include the regularly scheduled nature walk or stop at the Big Cypress Visitor Center. It should have and I have taken steps to make sure that does not happen again. Thank you for the feedback and again I apologize that we failed to live up to the high standards that should be expected.

The air boat right was the best part of the day. Rhett, our Gide was extremely knowledgeable! It started raining after the air boat so we drove through a nature reserve. We saw 2 Everglades mink! During our second boat tour the heavens opened up and it poured the rain!!! We had to cut that one short!! If only we could control the weather! We still had a fabulous day!!! Rhett did a fabulous job despite the bad weather!
