What To Expect
1
Kenai Fjords National Park
At the edge of the Kenai Peninsula lies a land where the ice age lingers. Nearly 40 glaciers flow from the Harding Icefield, Kenai Fjords’ crowning feature. Wildlife thrives in icy waters and lush forests around this vast expanse of ice. Native Alutiiq relied on these resources to nurture a life entwined with the sea.

The experience was way beyond our expectations! Isaac was incredibly knowledgeable about all in the Glacier area; with Safety as the #1 priority! We will definitely come back with other family members! If you want the safe, best and professional Glacier experience; call Kenai Backcountry Adventures (Brittany), she will coordinate all for you! The entire staff @ Kenai Backcountry Adventures is fantastic!!!!

Great and exhilarating hike to the glacier and then onto the ice. Our guide Todd, was very knowledgable on the area and things we saw and above all was very safety conscious on the ice. He gave us information about the ice, especially crevasses and how to walk on the ice in our Crampons. The colours were amazing and a privilege to be on a glacier hiking.

We were so delighted with our Exit Glacier hike with Todd! As it turned out, my husband and I were the only ones in our group, and leaving early allowed us to avoid crowds on the trail and we had the glacier to ourselves. Todd was so supportive and helpful, especially in figuring out the equipment (we had never worn crampons before) and getting up our courage to step out on the ice. it was more challenging that we had anticipated - kind of scary to be up there - but Todd kept us believing that we were entirely capable of staying on our feet and sure enough, we were! He showed us all around the walkable parts of the glacier while keeping us at a safe distance from the crevasses and other dangerous spots. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us and we're so glad that we signed up with Kenai Backcountry Adventures to do it. (Just as we were coming off the glacier, two large guided groups came on - I was really pleased that we had missed them.) Todd also helped us spot a bear with her 3 cubs (from a safe distance, of course) and taught us all kinds of things about the glacier and the wilderness country around it. If you're thinking of doing this, do realize that you probably want to be in reasonably good shape - the trail up to the point of entry on the glacier is a challenging uphill by itself, and the crampon-walking up and down the glacier requires some leg strength as well.
