The aurora borealis is one of the most amazing natural wonders on earth.  Join us on a quest to view and photograph the northern lights in and around the Fairbanks area.  Depending on the nights weather conditions we may head out to our cabin with a cozy fire, or head out on a chasing tour. The length of the night out and final location will depend on cloud cover and strength of aurora. Our team will reach out to you via forecast phone call between 3:00pm - 5:00pm to provide details on the pickup time, tour length, and destination for the night.

Do not miss this trip! Steve and Shannon are great. We didn’t see the aurora but we spent all the hours of darkness looking. Pick up from hotel was 11pm. Small group of 3 which was great. We stopped outside Fairbanks at a spot which was clear. The stars were out. Could see the Big Dipper. Beautiful but no aurora. We went further hoping clouds would clear. Saw Alaskan pipeline. We saw a moose cross the road. Steve explained in detail about how to forecast aurora. I went previously did a NL tour in Iceland which I’d never recommend. Greatland deserves a 100% as they go above and beyond. Steve explained about rods and cones in the eyes and how that was why camera could pick up lights eye couldn’t see. We then went to a cabin on a hill where we spent more time waiting for clouds to pass. In spite of clouds passing, no luck. Hot liquids and snacks available at cabin. They also have yurts. We started back to see if anything was to be seen. There are springs along the road where there are stations to collect the water. A local was filling 5gal containers when we arrived (at 3:30 am). We all had cups and tried the water. Then we posed at the pipeline. We had also posed at cabin. I arrived back at the hotel close to 5 am. Though I didn’t see the NL, I had more fun than I’ve had the rest of my trip. Very informative! Prior to going on the trip, I talked to several individuals who had worked with Greatland Adventures and they spoke highly of Steve and other leaders. My goal was to see the NL which isn’t realistic as we can’t control Mother Nature. I will remember the experience as the highlight of my trip. Still hope to see NL in the future

Had a great time on the tour. Shannon did a great job driving us through a blizzard to get reach clear sky. It was a long drive there and back, but very much worth it. Shannon was very committed to getting us an amazing sky show. Don't schedule an early morning tour the next day. You might not make it/really need a nap!

Fabulous 4 nights with Mike of Greatlqnd adventures in Fairbanks viewing the Northern Lights! The lights were fantastic. Great viewing spot with no light disruption. Had a nice warm cabin with hot drinks and snacks to escape the cold. Loved the ice walls, platforms around the cabin. Mike was always taking pics of our group, providing great info and extremely helpful in all ways. Highly recommend!!!
