The tour, which lasted two hours, began at the Plaza and ended 15 blocks north near the Frick museum. During our walk we learned much about the Astors, Vanderbilts, and other families who owned mansions along fifth avenue. We heard interesting and often humorous stories about the intense and often petty social competition between families. We learned about two of the architects, Richard Hunt and Stanford White, who built many of the homes. Our tour guide, Bob G. was knowledgeable and friendly and answered all our questions. He really made the tour. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and we highly recommend it.
