In the Frank Lloyd Wright tradition this house is awesome. Lots of wood which is always welcoming. Very interesting how he did the brick in the main fireplace. Pleases an architecture buff.

This attraction was included in our City Pass, so we didn’t hesitate to visit because we are very interested in design and architecture. In my opinion, it is not as impressive and well preserved as the FLW House and Studio, but it’s still very important to appreciate the style of this very famous American architect —and to understand the history and heritage of Chicago. Our tour guide was really kind, patient and well-spoken. He explained everything perfectly and knew the answer to all our questions. The shop is nice and the staff is kind. The entrance is hard to find though, as you have to enter through what used to be the “service area”, which is on one side of the house instead of the front. Also, getting here by public transportation from the Chicago Downtown is a bit tricky because you do have to walk a bit after taking the bus. The house is located in a nice neighborhood though (Mr. Robie was a wealthy client), so it’s a pretty area to pass by. I definitely recommend visiting!

I love historic homes and house tours and the staff here at Robie House does an excellent job. Our guide Kate was one of the best we've ever had, warmly gracious, deeply knowledgeable and a superb museum educator. This is celebrated as one of Wright's must-see properties and it lives up to the billing for its daring innovations early in his career. Very few furnishings remain and there were only a few visual aids to depict the rooms furnished and in use. Still, it is stunning and absolutely worth going out of your way to see. We readily found free street parking just around the corner in this residential neighborhood bordering the university, and the tour lasted one hour.
