We had a fun and insightful morning with Franklin! Right after greeting us, Franklin asked what w were interested in and he catered the tour. The tour consists of a walk through Wraggborough (historic Charleston neighborhood.) The focus is on the the residents, free and enslaved African Americans. You will see their homes and learn their stories from Franklin. This is a unique perspective, not to be missed. Franklin is an excellent and engaging tour guide ... really crafting the story of black life in Charlestown. The website makes it easy to make a reservation. Thank you Franklin, we learned so much.

What a great addition to our trip to Charleston! Franklin is passionate about the true history of of the city and the contributions of the enslaved African Americans dating back to the beginning. I knew that we couldn't visit Charleston without spending time learning more about the stories you can't find in history books. I appreciated the fact that Franklin kept the tour interactive with the guests allowing conversation and learning opportunities among all of us!

If you want to learn the real history of Charleston (not the Tourist traps) this it it! As a resident of Charleston for 20+ years, I was amazed to learn many NEW things. This definitely gave me a new perspective on this great city which I love. It definitely left a lasting impression - I'm planning to take it again with the kids. I wish they taught more of this in school -- so frustrating that all we learnt about was the white settlers.
