Today we spent 2 hours with Regine walking Jackson Square, the French Market, and the French Quarter. She was a wealth of information and we learned so much about the history of the settling of New Orleans and all of the changes its seen. Highly recommend! It is only $20 and unlike the commercial tours these guides are volunteers and are trained by the museum system. All proceeds go to the museums in New Orleans.

A friend tipped us off to this tour and I'm so glad she did. Friends of the Cabildo has many volunteers who give of their time to do these tours. Our guide was Billy Jo and she was fantastic. She did extensive training to be a guide and it showed. Her passion and enthusiasm were catchy and our group had a wonderful tour with her. I learned so much and it was the best 20 bucks I spent in New Orleans. The guides don't get paid so we gave her a good tip. All the money raised goes back to their organization to help keep the 1850 Museum. Our $20 also got us a free pass to the museum. It is closed on Mondays so we missed that part. I would highly recommend you support this tour and organization. They also keep the group sizes small. We were lucky enough to have a guide just for our group because it is low season for tourists. The tour takes 2 hours and is an easy walk. The store front and museum are off Jackson Square and easy to find.

This was a 2 hour walking tour of the French Quarter. Our guide, Regina, was very knowledgeable and her descriptions of history, geography, architecture and personalities were both very informative and entertaining. A bonus was a fair bit of information about the development of New Orleans beyond the French Quarter and how the several waves of immigration created much of the variety in culture and architecture seen throughout the city. Regina also had an excellent recommendation as to where to get a good Muffuletta after the tour.
