We had a great tour given by architect/ tour guide Sandra Baptie that started at the 1850's House in Jackson Square. We came as a family of seven and each one of us really found the various parts of the tour really unique to our individual interests. Her focus outlined the various types of vernacular architecture and urban design strategies of the French Quarter. We very much enjoyed the two hour walking tour and I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting the area.

There are lots of ways to tour the French Quarter. We bet on the Friends of the Cabildo tour because we wanted a fun, accurate story of the area. Our guide was fairly new and she was also impressively knowledgeable and articulate. It was a good mix of information about the history of Louisiana, the French Quarter itself, and some of the colorful personalities that have shaped New Orleans. The walking was not very taxing--there were some elderly member of our group who were keeping up more or less fine. And afterward we got to see the 1850 House, which provided a nice insight into life in 19th century New Orleans. Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a tour of the area.
