We booked a half-day Everglades tour and it was one of the highlights of our trip, an excellent way to experience a variety of ecosystems in a short amount of time. Suzette helped us with the booking and was very accommodating and flexible which was greatly appreciated. She also helped us choose what clothes and shoes to wear on the trip which was a big help. Our guide, Don, was knowledgeable, friendly, and fun. We began driving through the Everglades and stopped at a few culverts to view alligators up close which was amazing! We also saw an enormous crocodile form a distance down in a canal. Next we set out on our kayaks in Florida Bay. It was beautiful and we saw a plethora of wildlife including birds, sting rays, manatees, and lemon sharks. Lastly, we sloughed around a cypress dome which was such a beautiful and unique experience. Don was able to answer all of our questions and share his knowledge about the ecosystems along the way. We only had one day to see the Everglades and we are so glad we went with this tour. They really pack in a good variety of experiences so we felt like we got a good introduction to the park in our short time. Overall everything about our dealings with Garl's was positive, from the booking to the end of the trip. I highly recommend them, especially if you only have a short amount of time to devote to Everglades National Park. You will see so much more and experience so much more compared to seeing the park on your own.

For those of you interested in the Florida Bay kayak and snorkeling adventure, I highly recommend booking the trip with Garl. I went into the trip with the purpose of witnessing the beautiful mangrove underwater landscapes that I have marveled at in scuba travel diving magazines about trips to exotic locations like Indonesia. Well, I have to say that you do not need to go to Indonesia. We have it here in the Florida Keys. I'm an avid scuba diver and underwater photographer, but do not let that intimidate you. The water is shallow and if you are comfortable in the water you will not have any difficulties snorkeling. It was very relaxing swimming along the mangrove roots. We were equipped with top of the line kayaks which were impressively stable to climb in and out of the water when snorkeling and moving along the shoreline. I was amazed at the brilliantly colored sponges and tunicates that attach themselves to the roots of the mangroves like jewels. For those interested in macro photography or close focus wide angle photography you will have plenty of photo opportunities. My favorite find of the day was a small seahorse hanging upside down on a root covered in tunicates and sponges. We also saw a tiger striped flatworm feeding on tunicates, plenty of tropical fish, a stonefish, sting rays, tarpon, baby lobsters. Mangroves are critical nurseries for all the reef fish that we enjoy seeing when snorkeling and diving. If we want to protect the fish on the reef, we need to sustain the mangrove habitat. I hope these photos inspire you to get underwater with the mangroves and experience the beauty of nature by booking a trip with Garl's Coastal Kayaking.

My girlfriend and I did this tour over the past weekend. It was amazing being knee deep in water, walking towards an alligator hole (expect to get a little dirty). Although the alligator wasn't there, the activity itself, the views, and the other wildlife were spectacular. I thought it was going to be a little scary (at least to an extent), but the guide made use feel at ease the entire time. We then went on a salt water kayak, topped off by watching the sunset while on the water. The guide was great, fun with a good sense of humor and very knowledgeable about the environment and wildlife. We saw various alligators elsewhere, snakes (4 different species-maybe more), crocodiles, tons of birds (any bird lover would be in heaven), sharks, fish, and manatees. (Although, you always take a chance in what you will or will not see during these adventures). Would definitely recommend this trip for someone who wants a unique experience of the everglades, is adventurous, and who is wanting to do more than ride in an airboat. On a side note, you are in the van between adventures (in case you want to bring changes of clothes/shoes as yours will be wet/dirty), there is a cooler for you, and you may stop by a store at one point in case you want to bring money.
