We booked this tour after looking on the internet for the best way to spend one day in the Everglades. We found than with this tour we would have it all except the funny boat tour. It was INCREDIBLE! We were with Garl which is a legend in the Everglades. We can see that he is passionate and truly love the Everglades. The hike was unique, and amazing, who knew that we would walk in the swamp !!! Then the kayak was fun, where we met the huge crocodile, long friend of Garl! His knowledge was infinite ! The only downside is that Garl was a bit too interested to talk with his friends (rangers or guide) than leading us or being with us. But overall, it was worth it.

Garlā€™s day trip through the Everglades totally exceeded our expectations. This wasnā€™t just kayaking through Mangroves, although that was a trip highlight! It included a tour with a knowledgeable naturalist with a water hike through a Cypress Dome and a night walk to spy on glowing eyed gators. No worries, we were completely safe! Garlā€™s passion for this amazing ecosystem was evident, and he shared his great photography too. A not to be missed Everglades experience.

I donā€™t know how else you can visit Everglades. Garl is a very knowledgeable and patient guide. We started with a slog to the gator hole (Cyprus dome), which was the most amazing walk - straight out of a movie or documentary. Make sure your water shoes are tight cuz the mud can get deep and it takes some effort to pull your leg out of it. The kayaking through the nine mile pond was good too - saw a huge crocodile up close. We didnā€™t do the salt water kayaking because of the wind but instead did another slog. Unfortunately we didnā€™t find a gator or snake the second time around. But still it felt very adventurous to be able to walk through the mud/river. Theoretically you can do all these activities on your own without a guide. But you have to (1) know where the gator holes are - there is no mark on the road (2) be brave enough to walk in and get out - it could get scary sometimes (3) be able to locate the gators and wildlife (4) keep safe from venomous snakes - Garl told us at the end he had been looking for those snakes for our safety. Overall, I donā€™t think I can appreciate the park without this tour. You can do a airboat tour and see plenty of gators (I suppose), but we saw them up close and in the wild. Garl recognize then all and have names for these gators because he is so familiar with them! The slog itself was worth the money spent. Lastly, one little tip is we mightā€™ve been able to see more wildlife had we visited in Jan/Feb when the water recedes further. So I guess if you want an even better experience, you are better off come during those months.
