Germaine's Luau

Overview
The highlight of the show is the Samoan Fire-knife dance, known as the "Tooth of Death". In the original interpretation, this dance was performed with a dangerously sharp blade.

The story behind the dance is of a Samoan chief making a movie for Hollywood many years ago. He decided to include the flaming torch in his part to make the dance more spectacular.

The show also includes the energetic Samoan Slap Dance, a traditional display of male prowess. True to the name, the dancers slap their chests, arms and legs repeatedly throughout this segment. For Samoan men, this was an opportunity to demonstrate their bravery and courage.

I would normally start with the good and bad; however, there isn't anything good to say about this Luau. Parking - Get there early to get a spot in their tight parking lot or you'll have to park on the street. Drinks- watered down to the extent that we didn't use all of our drink coupons. Food - Only the fish and pulled pork made the grade of B. The remainder was terrible. Seating - Uncomfortable picnic benches. Entertainment - A. Some people dance individually (boring). B. The actual show lasted about 35 minutes. There are only 2 acts that are worth mentioning. The fire dancing was phenomenal. It was the best I've ever seen. It goes downhill from there. The Figi and French Polynesian dancers were average. The remainder was bad. This is a stereotypical commercialized Luau. They ask people in the audience to participate in dancing, having dance contests making people look like fools as are many of the low cheap Luaus in Hawaii. We blew over $400.00 for 3 people to see 35 minutes of a show and the rest was filled in by audience participation and cheap individual dances. We paid to see their dancers, not audience dancers. The last dance was audience participation; a lot of people including myself made a mad dash to our cars to escape the pain and humiliation. One could tell how bad this Luau was when the clapping was kept to a minimum. Finally, to put the cherry on top of the pie, this Luau is far from Waikiki.
