Germaine's Luau

Overview
The highlight of the show is the Samoan Fire-knife dance, known as the "Tooth of Death". In the original interpretation, this dance was performed with a dangerously sharp blade.

The story behind the dance is of a Samoan chief making a movie for Hollywood many years ago. He decided to include the flaming torch in his part to make the dance more spectacular.

The show also includes the energetic Samoan Slap Dance, a traditional display of male prowess. True to the name, the dancers slap their chests, arms and legs repeatedly throughout this segment. For Samoan men, this was an opportunity to demonstrate their bravery and courage.

We went to Germaines in 2011, loved every minute of it. Went back 2022 and was very disappointed. 2011 - great dancers. beautiful women, handsome muscular men. 2022 - maybe 5 female dancers trying to do all the dances, therefore long gaps in between dances. 3 or 4 skinny men who would have been better in a hip hop video not doing Hawaiian dancing. 2011 - the men dancing to Pele, Pele... wonderful. 2022 - one woman singing, dancers half heartedly dancing, did not even recognise the song until half way thru. 2022 - one fire dancer, one Maori dancer. Wish we had saved our money. Definatly not worth the $220 per person that I paid .

Food was fine (poi was not worked enough and was sour). The show was something you would see on a sitcom in the 70's. Nothing authentic or even good. The lady MC-ing the show was bad. She was off key and could not find her range. She talked way to much. The band was fine, but something was off. The dancers were fine and could do a good show if needed but their format is holding them back. Last, I judge these by how good their Haka is, it was sad, just sad.
