Alaska Excursions
On this spellbinding wilderness expedition, you will travel through fjords and rain forests viewing some of the most spectacular Alaskan scenery in Southeast. You’ll see everything from wildflowers to towering mountains and top off the experience with up-close views of the Davidson Glacier. Your adventure begins aboard one of our boats custom-designed to provide an intimate viewing experience. During your 75-minute journey through North America’s deepest fjord, keep a lookout for whales, seals, and cascading waterfalls while your Naturalist guide tells you more about the area you are traveling through. Upon arrival at the remote Glacier Point beach, you will take a short, adventurous drive across the forested glacial moraines to our base camp where you will gear up in rubber boots and a life jacket. After a ¼ mile walk, the forest opens to reveal a breathtaking view of the Davidson Glacier and pristine lake below. Here you will board a 31-foot voyager canoe for a trip around the lake to view the glacier and enjoy the incredible Alaskan wilderness while your guide shares his extensive knowledge of the area. Conditions permitting, you’ll make a stop on the delta to get up close and personal with the glacier. This is an optional 1/2 to 1-mile hike over a sand and pebble beach. After returning to the base camp, enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach before your return trip on the custom designed wildlife-viewing boat .

I booked this tour directly with the company, not through the cruise ship. The receipt I printed out after purchasing the tour, stated we would be picked up on the pier near our ship. The morning of the tour, I had a voicemail asking if I “intended to make your way to Skagway “. You see, our ship docked in Haines, not Skagway. So despite what our paperwork showed, we were responsible for transportation to Skagway! When I asked why our paperwork showed we’d be picked up at the ship, I was told “that was a mistake”. Not my mistake, but I still was without a way to get to Skagway. Apparently the fast ferry sells out weeks in advance! Yes, they refunded our money in full, but that was little consolation for missing an excursion I’d looked forward to for months! From now on, I will only book through the cruise ship!

A short boat ride with amazing views of snow capped mountains. Second leg of the excursion is a canoe ride to see a beautiful glacier. Due to rising water table, we were unable to get closer to the glacier, but still able to take beautiful pictures. The guides were very knowledgeable and entertaining! At the end of the excursion they supplied turkey sandwiches and trail mix. Disappointed we didn’t get to see any wild life, not even a seal.

This tour combines a little hiking, rowing and walking up to the glacier. We were very fortunate the day we went because we got pretty close and the sky was cloudy which allowed more blue to show in the glacier ice. The guides were fun and informed. Pick this over the much more expensive helicopter ride.
