Lafayette Cemetery No.1

The oldest city owned cemetery in New Orleans, you will learn about our burial practices and how the cemetery was founded. Note that the cemetery is closed to the public so entry is not included.

Our guide Emma was very knowledgeable and kept our tour interesting. Plenty of beautiful houses around to look at with wonderful architecture to appreciate and get a sense of true New Orleans history. This included also a visit to the Lafayette Cemetery #2, a must see!

We were only in New Orleans for a short (first time!) visit, but were very happy that we made time for this tour! Our guide, Charlie, called ahead to let us know where to meet him and what he was wearing, so no confusion. He was very friendly and really seemed to enjoy sharing historic insights and personal stories about the cemetery, homes, and Garden District neighborhood on the tour. He enthusiastically answered all of our questions and made sure we got back to good location to catch an Uber back to the French Quarter. A great mix of history, celebrity homes, and inside scoop into the charming Garden District area. Highly recommend!
