The hike is along the Canyon Rim, through the forest out to Ribbon Lake, and then past a geyser basin, Clear Lake, and the Wapiti Meadows with big views of the Hayden Valley. My wife and I had the pleasure of having Josh Mahan as our guide for a 5 hour tour of the Lamar River Valley. He is highly knowledgeable, an easy conversationalist with a nice sense of humor, and a good understanding of his clients. Josh immediately took us to the best spot for viewing wild life. Within the first hour we saw herds of bison, grizzly bear and wolves. Josh was patient and focused. We then saw more wolves, prong horn, bald eagles and SandHill cranes. He took us to a secluded spot on the river for lunch and showed us petrified wood, obsidian arrowheads and agate. We finished with sites of buffalo and elk kills. The 6 miles were an easy walk and the time flew by. Weā€™ve had a number of guided tours in countries all over the world, including South Africa safaris, and this was the best.

I really enjoyed the Grand Canyon hiking tour with Emily! It added a lot to my Yellowstone experience. Emily is fun and knowledgeable about the area. Because of COVID cancellations, I was the only one on the tour, which gave me the opportunity to ask Emily many questions. Beautiful sights and a fun guide. 10/10

My family (4 people including 2 teenagers) spent 2 days with Josh and Emily. We chose the both the Lamar Valley hike and the Canyon Rim hike. Both hikes were incredible in their own way. The views were spectacular and the many animals we saw were fantastic. There is no way we would have been able to navigate the trails on our own, avoiding dangerous animals in our path, while at the same time being educated on everything we would ever want to know about Yellowstone. Josh and Emily were both great and were on time for BOTH hikes. Their communication prior to the hikes was exceptional. We would definitely use Yellowstone Hiking Guides again if we are ever lucky enough to return in the future.
