The hike is along the Canyon Rim, through the forest out to Ribbon Lake, and then past a geyser basin, Clear Lake, and the Wapiti Meadows with big views of the Hayden Valley. Our guide, Bob, was great; even when being presented with challenges such as a 3 1/2-year-old child and bison nearby. He started the tour with a thorough explanation about bear spray. We appreciated his respect for the bison. He needed to change his route based on the big animals' needs. That was fine with us! We covered a wide range of topics concerning the park and its animals during our hike and Bob was quite knowledgeable on each area. He presented us with a variety of thoughts and theories on the topics, often presenting a new point of view for us.

My husband and 2 children (12 and 15) hiked with Josh through the Lamar Valley. We had to adjust our itinerary due to an employee calling in but even that initial bump will not decrease the rating. We saw a bear, wolf cub, eagle, and an awe inspiring herd of bison moving across the valley. We learned a lot, felt safe, and would book again. If you have long hiking pants I suggest wearing them...some of the plants are scratchy.

My family (8 of us in all) had a wonderful experience with Josh on our Lamar Valley hike. We came from our rented cabin in Island Park, Idaho and left very early in the morning so we wouldn't be late. Unfortunately we still encountered a Bison Jam in the park as well as traffic jam from a black bear near the road. Well we finally got to the meeting place and Josh was patient and relaxed and very friendly. On our way out to the trailhead we saw another black bear and Elk and Bison. Each time Josh stopped and let us enjoy the encounter even though we were running a little behind for our hike. The hike was beautiful with breathtaking views of the valley and some steep climbs but that can change based on where the Bison Herds are at the time. We felt safe the entire time. Lunch was very tasty and filling. We sat on the hill overlooking hundreds of Bison, some antelope (pronghorns), and we also saw a Mountain Bluebird. I cannot say enough about the hospitality and professionalism of Josh. His friendly demeanor and knowledge of the area and wildlife made the trip an awesome experience. Bring Binoculars, a long zoom camera, and some sunscreen. I highly recommend Yellowstone Hiking Guides!
