What To Expect

Great Platte River Road Archway Monument

Walk with the pioneers over the Oregon Trail. Watch a rider make a quick stop to switch horses at a Pony Express Station. Hear Mark Twain’s account of a cross-country stagecoach trip. Relive the competition that created the first Transcontinental Railroad, and visit a travelers’ campground to hear stories of life on the Lincoln Highway. All this happened right here on the Great Platte River Road in Nebraska. Using life-size figures in elaborate scenic displays the Archway tells an inspiring American story of discovery, innovation, and adventure. The admission price applies to the historic exhibit only. Other amenities on the Archway campus are accessible at no charge. (Note: Last Ticket Sales @4:30pm Mon-Sunday)

Interesting displays reflecting the journeys West and the Lincoln Highway All the displays are in any archway across Highway 80. We learned about the Seedling Mile which we hadn’t heard of before. While it isn’t a must see, it’s worth a trip if you’re in the area.

The arch has a wonderful self guided tour with headphones covering the history of the western expansion. Best hour long history lesson!

I had passed under the Archway Monument several times on road trips. On this particular road trip, I was with my son so I decided to stop and see what it was. I realized as I pulled in the archway was going to be something that had an admission ticket. I let the kid decide and I am glad I did. It was an awesome audio tour filled with history, personal stories and struggles and some great American history that appealed to various kinds of travelers. Also, beyond the actual archway monument, there is also a great dog park for our service dog and also a fun maze for kids and additional history outside to read about. No complants at all on this discovery. Well worth the time and money. I just wish it had been a tad bit less expensive.
