Hale Hoaloha Luau at the Mauna Lani

Overview
The luau is held at the beautiful Mauna Lani, Auberge Resort at Kalāhuipuaʻa, which is a historical area where ancient Hawaiians mastered the art of aquaculture and where King Kamehameha came to recuperate and work in the fishponds.

Guests are welcomed with a traditional Oli (chant) in preparation for preliminary activities with the cast. After the activities, watch as the pig is taken out of the traditional imu pit before it is prepared for the Hawaiian buffet.

The program is capped off by a performance of traditional and modern Hula dances, along with the spectacular Samoan Siva Afi (fire knife dance).

Hale Hoaloha Luau at the Mauna Lani
The Hale Hoaloha Lūʻau is a celebration of the beauty and stories of the land area known as Kalāhuipuaʻa. Considered the “piko” (center) of the majestic mountains of Haleakalā, Kohala, Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and Hualālai, the Mauna Lani is a special place to all who have the privilege of enjoying its beauty. Traditionally, lūʻaus are important family celebrations with a feast of favorite foods, sharing of moʻolelo (story telling), mele (music) and hula. Hale Hoaloha Lūʻau brings together all of these while sharing Mauna Laniʻs majestic history and the true essence of aloha, ʻohana (family) and kuleana (responsibility) with everyone in attendance.

Lu’au at Mauna Lani Reosrt, what a delight! Amazing show, food and hospitality. I loved the cultural showcase done through dance. MC was very entertaining, my brother was invited on stage to do a dance and he loved it. All staff were very accommodating, we were running late, they called us to check-in, escorted us to our table, food was really good, we are vegetarians; no meat, no fish, no eggs. Staff were very knowledgeable on the ingredients, had plenty of options of us as well.

We have been to multiple luaus, on a variety of the Hawaiian Islands. The Hale Hoaloha luau was welcoming and small. The food was excellent. The fresh fruit and salads were excellent. There was plenty of fresh seafood. Before the show the audience could try Hawaiian lawn games and learn the hula.

I grew up on Oahu and have been to many a luau. My wife and I went since she has never experienced one. To be completely candid, after this experience I realize this is an exceptionally well done luau. The experience left me with a deep appreciation for the work and dedication of island breeze productions the company that runs this. From the moment we entered the grounds are beautiful and well laid out. The staff also is plentiful and very pleasant. For a large crowd, everything felt quite intimate given the setting. The food was buffet style and as an islander it all won my stomach and heart over. Especially the cold portion that had fresh sashimi, big prawns and ‘broke da mouth’ pokes. The show itself was so entertaining and engaging. The MC for the night is an awesome story teller and did a great job of engaging the audience. Especially at the end when the goodbye song was sung. I have never been to a luau where I saw people crying because of the heartfelt Aloha. Outstanding and highly recommended to go to this particular show. It runs seasonally, so I hope to bring others when it runs. Otherwise there are other shows that island breeze does too. This one by far is worth the price and the extra drive north for anyone visiting the Kona coast.
