Half Day Snorkel Trip on Reefs in the Florida Keys

Overview
Come join us snorkeling some of the most beautiful reefs within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and Pennekamp State Park. We have many possible reefs to explore: Molasses, Elbow, French Reef and the famous Christ of the Abyss on Dry Rocks. These protected areas offer an opportunity to see turtles, spotted eagle rays, moray eels and a variety of different fish. These special reefs are part of the 3rd largest living reef system in the world and the ONLY living coral reef in the US. We stop at two different locations on the reef. Each stop is determined by the captain based on the day's conditions. We cannot guarantee any specific site.

In an effort to reduce the amount of single-use plastic that ends up in our oceans, we recommend bringing a reusable water bottle. We have water coolers in our shop and on our boats for your convenience!

Boat, crew, and equipment were great. Chris, Brandon and H hosted a great trip. Fair warning: if youā€™re prone to seasickness just be aware this trip can take you out to reefs where there are 2-4 ft waves.

Yes we are going 5 miles offshore to the National Marine Sanctuary and the waves can be rolly or choppy dependant on the winds. Many people to take anti nausea medication the night before and the morning of the trip to ensure the medication is in your system and have good resutls. Others prefer homeopathic approach and they start taking ginger tablests at least a week prior to your ocean excursion.

The people that work there are very nice and informative. Unfortunately, hurricane Ian had been through 10 days before and the clarity of the water was terrible. We received the following email from the company after we book, however, we did not have email and booked the day before....."Hello, Each day the water visibility is improving, however it is still low.A few more tidal changes should help but it probably will be about 15-20 ft max. The seas have laid down and today only 1ft out at the reef." EVERYTHING was cloudy and visibility horrible. We checked with other places for us to possibly go to the next day and were told they were not taking snorkel groups out because of the water. I would appreciate it if they had just said we cannot do tours at this time instead of wasting our money. That combined with the fact that the reef was not very close to the surface plus the ā€œshipā€ was not very interesting made for a disappointing day.

Yes post hurricane the conditions have not been great and we have been honest with that. Some people really wanted to go and give it a try and we accommodated them. Others rebooked and some asked for cancellations and we gave full refunds. We try to let the customers know the conditions and allow them to make their own choices. Many people came to us because their trips were cancelled by other companies and they were grateful we did run our trip. I am not sure what ship you are refering to, I believe your were taken to one of our natural historical shallow wrecks. We sincerely hoped you were going to have a good experience and we reget we failed to meet your expectations.

This is a very difficult review to write as there were probably quite a few people on the trip that would give a 5 star rating for this snorkelling trip. Yes indeed for organisation, safety briefings, comic effect of the captain and his crew. The lovely meander at the beginning through the mangroves and his knowledge. I would indeed give a 5 star rating. But this all changed once we got onto the open sea to make our way to the reef. Just to give you some background knowledge, my husband and I have snorkelled quite a bit. In the barrier reef in Australia in Hawaii as well as in Florida on trips in the pass. So we are not complete novices. We are susceptible to motion sickness so we always take medication before be leave. But we have always been on trips which have added a caveat that it might be postponed if the swell was too great, which has been done and we rebooked it on another day. Unfortunately for us the swell that we encountered when we got to the reef was such that at least 8 people were sea sick. My husband and I I tried to get in water as we knew this would be the answer. The swell was so much that I was unable to snorkel safely. Unfortunately we had to get back on the boat which then meant we were really unwell for the next 3 hours until we were taken back on to shore. This cost us $140 and we were never told before leaving that it might be a rough ride, or given the opportunity to rebook. Which we would have done if we had been given this information. If it wasnā€™t for the fact that my husband and I were so unwell when we got to shore, we would probably gone to complain. So by all means book this trip as I am sure you will have an amazing experience. But please be mindful if it is rough you will not be informed or offered to reboook if you are concerned

I reget that we failed to inform you of the conditons. Not knowing what exact trip you went on I can not respond directly. I do know the staff is trained to pass along any information we gather in regards to the reef conditions. If the conditions are unfavorable they are instructed to offer rebooking or cancellation with Refund. We do go 5 miles offshore and any wind will create waves and waves will cause motion sickness. I would recommend that if you are susceptible to motion sickness take medication the night before and the morning of your water activity, that will help ensure its in your body to help. Again we are sorry you had an unfavorable expire with us.
