The write up about this experience is a little misleading. You are expected to do everything, from taking the kayak on your car, finding the beach, finding parking, getting the kayak off of your car (it is heavy),dragging it to the beach, and then navigating the route. The day was very windy, making kayaking very difficult. Then dragging it back to your car, getting it back up on your car and secured and getting back to the rental spot. We were expecting a pick up at a beach with help getting ready. So not worth it from our experience.

Rented 2 person kayaks for self guided trip to Mokalua Islands. Price was fair. Process of checking in and getting kayaks took quite a while. Pick up area was super congested and had to wait a long time to get going. Staff were friendly.

My husband and I called on Sunday to inquire about renting a tandem kayak for Monday morning. Realizing it was short notice, we were pleased when Bob informed us he had one tandem left and we gave our credit card information over the phone to reserve it for a 9:30 pick up. We arrived at 9:30 and at check in were informed that our tandem was no longer available and would have to rent two singles. (A tandem was $55 for a half day, singles were $45 each for half days...an extra expense we didn’t want and weren’t expecting) plus back rests and island passes. The whole reason I had opted for the tandem was because I wasn’t confident in my kayaking abilities...so after a fair bit of huffing and puffing (not being jerks, but definitely expressing our disappointment ) the very sweet front desk person who had just returned from maternity leave called Bob over. After a fair amount of rustling around in the storage area, he found us a tandem kayak! He helped us tie it to the roof of our rental car, fitted us with life jackets and sent us on our way. During the “briefing “ we were given directions as to where to launch our kayak...we should have listened better because looking back, she actually gave us all the information we needed for launching, kayaking and also staying alive. My husband and I were busy being irritated that our tandem wasn’t available, which was small of us. Luckily, we grabbed a map in the store and were able to figure it out. There is a green store, turn by that! We were lucky enough to find a spot in the parking lot, then took the kayak off the car and dragged it to the water...this will get you sweaty! Also, pay attention to where you launch! After paddling around for a while, you get tired and when you finally get close to shore and are ready to leap out of your kayak, it’s nice to remember where you are heading! There are bathroom facilities at the “launch” park. There are outdoor showers to hose off your body, your shoes and your gear. There are also indoor-ish bathrooms and changing areas so you can change clothes and use the toilets. Dropping off at Twogood was simple...except we were told to unload our kayak ourselves. I guess I expected that the employees would do it, but my husband just jumped in there and acted like it was no big deal so maybe that’s just me. So...I read the bad reviews of this place and decided to just go ahead and give this place a try. Overall, I was mostly satisfied with our experience. On the phone, Bob was lovely, helpful and patient. When we arrived, the store was hot, crowded and chaotic and our tandem kayak reservation just...disappeared. After some questionable behavior on our part, my husband and I finally got what we wanted and had a great time kayaking in a tandem kayak. I can’t give a full five stars because we had to really throw up a stink to get the actual thing we reserved with an actual credit card... But, once we got what we reserved, we actually had a lovely time. We found the park, we launched the kayak, we paddled around until we were tired and then we brought everything back. So, overall I have to say we were satisfied with our experience.
