Half-Day Thoroughbred Horse Farm Tour in Kentucky

Overview
Discover why Lexington, Kentucky is known as the Horse Capital of the World on this 3.5-hour narrated tour with transportation provided on a comfortable 14-person passenger van. The tour is not all on the van, though, as destination stops are made at world famous Keeneland Race Course* and one or more of the beautiful Thoroughbred horse farms that combine to make the Lexington region the true epicenter of Thoroughbred breeding in the United States ... and beyond.

All tours are given by very experienced local guides who share a wealth of stories about the history of the local area, farms, bourbon production and the Thoroughbred horse -- the world's most desired breed for winning the world's most prestigious races.

* NOTE: All tour itineraries can vary/change depending on changing destination and farm availability on the specific day of the tour. This is true for all of the venues (including Keeneland at its discretion) and the Thoroughbred horse farms.

Keeneland was certainly the highlight of this tour, but the other parts were also interesting and informative. We got to see many farms, some of them up close. At least I got to know which one was Calumet. We could touch some mares but never got close to a colt. Keeneland was beautiful and it so enjoyable to watch the jockies put the horses through their paces. Our Guide (his name excapes me) did a good job explaining the world of thoroughbreds. He was an opera singer, a voice coach, a barbershop quartet singer, reitred from the post office. Very interesting. This is the tour to take.

Our tour lasted about three hours. Our tour guide, Vicky, was exceptionally knowledgeable about the surrounding area with respect to the horse farms and their current and past ownership and the Kentucky Derby and horses associated with it. She not only talked about the farms and what they did on them but also about breeding and raising horses and pretty much anything associated with that. We not only drove around to different farms but were able to get out at three locations and see actual thoroughbred horses and some with babies which was really cool because we didn’t stay in the vehicle the whole time. It was quite safe and comfortable and we all followed appropriate safety precautions. One other thing I did want to mention was that the van ļæ¼ride wasn’t boring at all because Vicky talked pretty much the whole time and for the few minutes of silence it was weird because she was able to talk about something the whole time whether about horses, the local area or about Kentucky or about restaurant suggestions.ļæ¼ It was an all-around fun time.ļæ¼

Daniel was very informative and a lot of fun! We saw some beautiful thoroughbred horses and the farms on which they live.
