We do a lot of tours and travel frequently, so, believe us when we say this is one of the best tours we've ever taken. Our "tour guide" or, better said, our "expert" was Nicholas Newman and he and his brother actually own a thoroughbred farm and are managers/trainers. He explained he was not a "tour guide" but rather someone who was passionate about what he does for a living and enjoys sharing it with visitors. There was no pre-written script, but, rather just conversation about Lexington's horse racing community. In the comfort of a van, he drove us through beautiful "horse country" and made a stop at Keeneland, which we loved. Secretariat and Seabiscuit were filmed here and we just loved it -- we're going to go back for a race sometime this year! The information he knew was very interesting, from the scales that weigh the jockeys and gear to the turf on the track . . .from there, we visited other horse farms, took loads of pictures, petted horses, and even made a visit to "Old Friends" -- where horses retire . . .look it up, you'll see what I mean. It was a bone chilling March day, but, we all still felt it was one of the best tours we've ever been on. Nicholas even took suggestions on a name for a new foal that was to be born "any minute" -- very interesting -- not your typical tour, it was better!
