We had a fantastic experience during a morning whale watch trip. The crew was professional and genuine, in good spirits. Motion sickness tablets were available free of charge, as well as hot drinks before and after the trip. I believe there were drinks available on board too, but we didn't have any as we were so in awe of all the whales and wildlife we saw. Medium size boat, we were able to walk around or sit down as they do not 'sell' to capacity, which makes for a great trip. Do bring warm coats / waterproofs.

When we set off, I thought 'wouldn't it be nice to see a whale?!' what I didn't expect was to see so many and to see two jumping out of the water within the first 15 minutes! We actually saw so many whales that it started to become 'normal' rather than a special thing! Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The only downside for us and it was our fault! was that we hadn't brought enough warm clothes for summertime in this part of California, where there is often a low fog and cloud at this time of year. So even with our hoodies and sweatshirts, we were freezing on the boat. Please bring warm clothing, woolly hats and gloves - just in case you need them, as I was frozen to my bones by the time we got off. Oh and it was quite choppy so those who suffer from sea sickness were not faring too well on our trip!

We did the 9am Discovery Whale Watching trip in early August 2018 and it was brilliant. Over the course of 4 hours skipper John and marine biologist Brit took us out into the bay, sought out many different species and gave commentary and information throughout. We saw Rissos dolphins, fin whales and numerous humpbacks and birds. The bay is just teaming with life. The boat wasn’t overly big, but also wasn’t overcrowded. The crew were very knowledgeable and helpful. The sea was pretty calm too. The only thing to note is that it is cold. We’d wrapped up but could have been better insulated. So glad we did this tour and will do it again if we return to Monterey.
