Our family of three thoroughly enjoyed our half-day rafting trip with Glacier Raft Company. It was out first time whitewater rafting, and with an adult non-swimmer in our group, I emailed in advance to ensure he could join in the fun. Our guide, Doc, went out of his way to connect with everyone on our raft during his very thorough and entertaining safety lessons (and we were a diverse group of conservationists, a doctor, a historian, a lobbyist, an accountant, a security guard, and a teenager). While calmer conditions would have made some of the rapids a little less thrilling, doc maneuvered the boat into situations we discussed and rehearsed in advance so everyone in the boat could be soaked at least once and feel the exhilaration of a controlled moment of concern. In addition to learning about safety and rafting, doc gave a narrative history of the river, the National Park, and how and why the area has developed over the last 250 years (yes, he discussed the French voyagers). So first, stop searching for a raft company and choose Glacier Raft. Doc kept our group of four rafts together while another company blew past us clearly trying to make a daily quota and separating their very large group of at least 12 rafts. Second, when you book for any trip, whether it's whitewater or a leisurely float, ask for Doc. You will have a great time.
