Hamilton - An American Musical
From the creative team behind the Tony Award-winning In The Heights comes a wildly inventive new musical about the scrappy young immigrant who forever changed America: Alexander Hamilton. Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda wields his pen and takes the stage as the unlikely founding father determined to make his mark on a new nation as hungry and ambitious as he is. From bastard orphan to Washington's right hand man, rebel to war hero, loving husband caught in the country's first sex scandal to Treasury head who made an untrusting world believe in the American economy, Hamilton is an exploration of a political mastermind. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Eliza Hamilton, and lifelong Hamilton friend and foe, Aaron Burr, all attend this revolutionary tale of America’s fiery past told through the sounds of the ever-changing nation we’ve become. Tony Award nominee Thomas Kail directs this new musical about taking your shot, speaking your mind, and turning the world upside down.

I loved the theatre's ambiance, the actors, their energy, the plot, and the music. A great experience.

Attended Hamilton with two 14 year olds and one 12 year old. The music is great, but complex and the story is so jam packed, it was a bit too much for them (and they happily enjoyed Les Mis). The row of older teens in front of us were falling asleep unfortunately. I think this is a better show for adults who have more tolerance and interest in a more complex storyline. But even for adults, there were parts of the songs that were hard to understand because it was really very loud where we were sitting (and we are theatre-goers, so pretty comfortable with usual sound levels). We were up in the mezzanine and the seats in that theatre all seemed very good in terms of visibility. The bathroom situation at the break was ridiculous though they did try to manage the line and keep people moving as best they could. It was funny being told to "shove with love" as we left the washrooms, but really, should you have to just to get back out? Go before you get there!

Hamilton is not your typical Broadway show, as far as I can tell. The music is blended with rap and has some gospel in it, which makes it different, powerful and addictive. The cast are all great singers and I loved how almost the entire cast are black singers. It fits with this show so well. Just be careful with the seating. The tickets for the Mezzanine are pricey and there is no legroom. People were sitting on the stairs during the second half to stretch their legs. I hope to see Hamilton again when I am back in the city.
