On August 5, 2021 Neil our excellent , informative, knowledgeable tour educator for the Harlem civil rights 3 hour walking tour provided us with one of the best informational and educational tours that I have ever been on. He educated us and told us stories about Martin Luther Marvin Gayes songs āwhatās going onāand why he wrote that song. He educated us about Adam Clayton Powell ( First black Congressman in US, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King James Vanderzee, Maya Angelou. His friend, Korey Wise one of five men that were unjustly convicted, and years later were exonerated came
by and greeted the group before the walk that encompassed the civil rights leaders of 60s, 70s, 80s that were instrumental in providing the black community with the important information and education that they need it in order to thrive.
We met another notable, Marcus Samuelson, Red Rooster owner, who was gracious, stopped and greeted us. Neil noās many many influential civil rights activists, business owners, and entrepreneurs who are continuing to ensure that the Harlem community retains some of the history and legacy that were left by their ancestors. Another notable man was the one responsible for ensuring that the Juneteenth celebration was revitalized.
We passed by many beautiful brownstones (former home of Mya Angelou), refurbished, older churches, charter and public schools. Tour ended at the famous Apollo theater where we took pictures visited the gift shop and said our goodbyes.
10 stars to Neil!!!
Sincerely ,
Judy Reeves
