As a big hip hop fan, I was really excited to see that there were organised tours of the different boroughs of New York centred around local links to hip hop legends. At a pretty reasonable price too. I was quite anxious that the tour would not go ahead, as it had been snowing in the city that week and despite trying to call the tour operators several times, I never received an answer on this, despite leaving a message with my mobile phone number. However, when I turned up, it was not long before the tour guide (none other than Reggie Reg from the Crush Crew) walked up the street and introduced himself. He was a fantastic tour guide, and really informative along the way - you could definitely tell his passion for hip hop music was real. I also really enjoyed the opening part of the tour that took place in the Museum Of New York, which detailed the history of the city itself, which was a great introduction. The tour took just under 1.5 hours, and although there didn't seem to be a specific route we were being taken on, the conversation with Reggie and the other people on the tour was really fun. It seemed to deviate into other parts of black culture other than hip hop, from street art to Malcolm X, so don't expect this to be entirely on point, but having said that, it was really interesting all the same. I would certainly like to try the other tours of NYC, perhaps in regions that have strong links to the hip hop community, but would definitely recommend this if you find yourself with a morning in the city to spare.

Danny A, Thank you the great feedback and for bearing with us in the inclement weather. Sometimes we deviate, but hopefully it always comes back to the thing that shaped this city, the birthplace of Hip-Hop. Would love to show you around some other neighborhoods next time you're in NYC!

I took my HS students on this tour last Thursday. It was amazing. When I asked them what they thought-they said it was the best field trip they have ever been on. Grandmaster Caz and DJ Easy AD were very entertaining and knowledgeable. They were very patient with the kids and answered all of their questions. Bboy Spidey was outstanding. It really helped the kids engage and feel connected to the tour. The best part to see-as a teacher- was when Grandmaster Caz and DJ Easy Ad spoke to the kids about having your own style (being yourself) and hanging out with the right people. HS students need to hear that, especially from icons like them. This tour is for people of all ages, and not just for tourists. Native New Yorkers will also benefit from this tour.

DoubleM118, We love entertaining high school students because it's always a challenge, so hearing that this was their favorite field trip means a ton! While we love connecting with tourists and visitors, it's always a special experience to host natives! Would you mind emailing me at [email protected] to connect briefly? Thanks!

This tour focused more on the history and sites of Harlem, more so than Harlem's connection to Hip Hop. The guide was friendly and accommodating, and managed to answer most of the questions from the group, however the information given lent more towards responses from questions about hip hop from the group, rather than an informed tour of Harlem and its specific relations to Hip Hop the only thing relevant on the tour was some graffiti art I gave this tour a 3, as despite it not being relevant to Hip Hop, the guide did give the group a guide to Harlem itself and its history, so for this it was worth it, as I had an interest in Harlem.
