My husband and I took the tour on June 10th. It was fabulous! The tour was educational, entertaining and extremely interesting. Our tour guide was born and raised in Harlem and you could feel the love and pride he has for the neighborhood. Definitely worth it. The music was awesome and upbeat. It really added to the whole experience.

We took the tour on Christmas Day and it was challenging conditions because it was icy cold and windy. Neil, our guide, was excellent company and led us around Harlem showing how it was and how it has changed. His guiding style was one of a "street poet", incorporating his personal story and plenty of anecdotes. His command of the historical detail was excellent, he really does know his stuff and he manages to conjure the atmosphere of Harlem past and present, even on freezing cold morning in empty streets. He gave recommendations for further exploring, which we took him up on (Minton's Jazz bar was an excellent night out), and took us to famous spots such as Red Roosters and the Apollo theatre. If you are looking for a genuine local to show you his neighbourhood and are happy with an informal, poetical style of guiding I would wholeheartedly recommend Neil's tour...next time I am in NY, I will take another tour with him for sure.

We were fortunate to have a private tour with Andy Owens - not that it was planned, but the way it worked out. Andy is a fount of knowledge about anything in Harlem and he has interesting stories to tell about his life experiences. Great introduction to Harlem!! Highly recommend it. Annette and Doug
