My mother has always wanted to visit Harlem. So when she came to visit from California, I dragged her to New York for her first visit and the tour was our first stop. It was informative. Unfortunately, due to the heat, we had to leave early. My mother enjoyed it and our tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining.

Neal Shoemaker was one of the most engaging, entertaining and informative guides I have encountered. I've traveled to 40 countries around the globe and have been on countless tours. I don't know if I've ever had a better guide. He introduced himself, allowed guests to share with him, and used that knowledge to pinpoint the tour to shared interests. He helped us imagine a different time in a now very different place that is a foundation of Black culture in America. He knows the streets, the history, the community and stories that bring it alive. I'm a high school history teacher; after the tour I told Neal I want to be as engaging with my students as he is! Next time I'm back in NYC I will definitely take another tour... hopefully with Neal. He gave us a little teaser of the Spanish Harlem tour. But I'm sure if the Harlem Heritage Tours hired Neal, their other guides are just as phenomenal. See you again soon!

Neal was a fantastic tour leader. He really painted beautiful pictures with his words which were almost poetic. And he really took the time to make sure everyone felt included. Wonderful, warm, and inviting!
