It was a bit overly staged vs what we thought we would be seeing. There was more from 1 bus then from the congregation. We were asked twice for money and paraded around the front which was a bit of pressure to donate. Not sure why every bus went to a different location. We ended up in Brooklyn vs Harlem. They were very nice to us but it felt a bit staged.

Dear lulu-zulu, I hope that you booked with Harlem Spirituals / New York Visions as this particular tour never goes to Brooklyn. There wouldn't be enough time... Unless you meant the Bronx. If you did travel with us, that would mean that your group may have had the great fortune of visiting Harlem as well as the Bronx. You still get the entire Harlem Tour only the service is held in the Bronx. This aim of the church experience portion of our tour is that of immersion within a community during a worship service. These are not performances or shows that are staged for the benefit of visitors. We attend the part of the service that precedes the actual sermon it is called song and praise. During this time churches greet visitors, make announcements, worship through songs as well as collect donations for their various ministries to help their community. There is no pressure for you to donate this is already included in the tour price. Buses attend different services because we want visitors to have more intimate experiences, so we would not send multiple groups to one location. The congregants at the churches we attend are all genuinely very warm and welcoming people. This is one of the key experiences that we hope to share with all of our visitors. Sincerely, Erika Elisabeth Harlem Spirituals / New York Visions

Our tour visited the Thessalonian Baptist church in Bronx NY. We had an amazing tour guide Anthony that gave us so much history of Harlem where he lives and helped us see this amazing area. The praise and worship service was spirit filled and gave us a cultural view of the heart of Harlem. Money well spent for these midwesterners!
