My dad & I attended the gospel tour on a Sunday early in December. Our tour guide Antonio made the trip far more interesting sharing fascinating information about Harlem. We thoroughly enjoyed the church service. However found some our group incredibly rude during the service. After sitting on the bus majority of the time, they couldn’t find the respect to stand during the service which probably didn’t even last an hour... we also thought it was a waste leaving half way through the service, didn’t really give the full effect that the tour portrays. We also found that a lot of local members of the church weren’t really impressed by our visit, with mixed expressions of our presence. I think your team could communicate better to the tour group as to what’s expected even though respect should be common sense. It also appeared that the same rude people in the group conveniently forgot to tip Antonio (who pretty much keep the tour alive) and the driver who battled the crazy traffic throughout the tour. You only have to spend two seconds in the US to know not tipping is frowned upon. Why these people even go on such a tour is beyond us. In summary, it would be great if the tour was the whole church service to show the full effect that the church community has on Harlem. And that if rude people don’t want to get in the spirit then maybe suggest to sleep in instead. Warm regards.

Dear Jodie G, Thank you for your feedback on our Harlem Gospel tour. We are happy that you and your father enjoyed our tour and we appreciate you acknowledging the hard work put forth by our tour guide and driver. We welcome visitors from all over the world on our tours and although not everyone always shares the same cultural values or experiences, our guides do their best to keep the integrity of our programs while showcasing a typical day in the life in New York City. Our tour lasts 4 hours including travel time and we balance the experience with historical content, site visits, stops and the church service. We attend the first portion of the service just before the sermon which lasts about 1h15 minutes. We do this to avoid disrupting the congregation by the exit of a group as some services can last well over 2 hours. Our regular departure tours are designed to give visitors an immersive introduction to New York City. We also offer private tours for groups and individuals that can be customised to your specifications and include for instance the entire duration of the church service. In either case, there is so much to see and do in our city that we always encourage our guests to come back and explore the neighborhoods that we tour in at their own pace. Best wishes, Erika Elisabeth Vice President Harlem Spirituals / New York Visions Maven American Journeys

Great tour - I thought it was just a church service but was pleasantly surprised to get an informative funny quirky tour of New York and an incredible 1 hour spectacular- the pastor , the congregation and the choir was straight out of “COMING TO AMERICA “ - you have got to see it to believe it.
