Helicopter Glacier Dogsled Tour + Lower Glacier Landing - ANCHORAGE AREA

Overview
The ultimate multi activity package: a helicopter tour, a dogsled tour and a landing on the lower glacier to explore the melt pools and crevasses.

Start this adventure with a spectacular helicopter ride over glaciers and icebergs. We often see moose, black bears, Dall sheep and mountain goats. Land on a huge snow field high on a glacier and enjoy a whole hour with Alaskan sled dogs and their mushers that live here all summer long. Take the dog team for an exhilarating dogsled ride through real snow. You can stand on the runners and mush your own dog team if you want, or just sit on the sled and let the mushers run the team.

After the tour the helicopter takes you to the lower glaciers where you will land on the hard ice between the crevasses to see the majestic blue melt pools.

We totally enjoyed the experience. Our helicopter pilot, Will, was absolutely fantastic. He explained everything to us, took pictures and interacted with everyone on the tour. This was top-notch service. Our dogsled leader, Gavin, was great. We had a little issue with the dog sled but Gavin handled the situation perfectly. We totally enjoyed the interaction with the sled dogs and the new puppies. Gabby was extremely helpful with this. This had to rate as a top 10 experience in our lifetime. We would like the time thank the entire staff for making this a truly memorable experience.

This was one of if not the most amazing experiences I have ever had. Flying up to the glaciers and riding the dog sled was simply spectacular. We especially enjoyed getting to actually drive the dog sled! The dogs were super friendly and loving. They seemed to be enjoying themselves as well! The views were amazing. The staff were super friendly and did a great job with my 8 year old daughter and 6 year old son. Getting to walk on the glacier and even taste the water (which was quite good might I add) was a true eye opener. Made me appreciate even more all that God has made. It is utterly amazing how beautiful His creation is!! On the helicopter ride, we saw a moose, a black bear with 2 cubs and other wildlife and the pilot was very helpful at pointing them out. My kids had a great time as did my wife and I. I would highly recommend this for anyone that wants to see and experience something truly awe inspiring that you simply could not see and do without a tour like this. All of the staff were top notch!

I had an incredible time on my tour. At the dogsled portion, our guide was Hannah. She was great, her enthusiasm was infectious. Besides the mushing portion (which was like a more thrilling sleigh ride), she answered all our questions about the dogs, introduced us to some sweet puppies, and showed us around the camp, including her hut. I recommend having sunglasses and gloves for the mushing portion, especially if it is sprinkling. The glacier landing was great, too. We spent 20 min/half an hour at our landing by a glacier lake and stream. We got to drink the glacier water and wander around the lake. Our pilot, Josh, was also great, he showed us around the lake, explaining a lot about glacial ice and how the glaciers work. As a bonus, he is a great photographer! (He used to be a professional!) Because of the multiple stops, the aerial sight-seeing portion of the tour is less of the focus, but Josh pointed out a lot of the different glacier formations. The Knik River Lodge has plenty of parking, a nice restaurant, and really nice restrooms, it makes a good base. If you are staying in Anchorage, the Knik River Lodge is an easy hour drive, part on the highway, and then part on smaller one lane highways that are well maintained. That second half is pretty scenic, I even saw a moose on the side of the road! While this is an expensive tour, it packs a lot into the one trip and I thought it was worth it. Definitely will make your highlight reel!
