Hermann-Grima Historic House Guided Tour Ticket

Overview
This restored French Quarter home built in 1831, includes a Federalist architectural façade, original operating open-hearth kitchen, urban slave quarters, and expansive courtyard. The Urban Enslavement Tour at Hermann-Grima House, looks at the experiences of those who were enslaved in an urban setting, how that differed from those enslaved in rural settings, and how the contributions of people of African descent have shaped New Orleans. Condé Nast Traveler voted it one of the best tours in New Orleans and the only tour listed from a museum. We believe that nothing tells a story like a home. In addition, the property’s 19th-century carriage house is home to the The Exchange Shop, originally founded in the 1881 by The Woman’s Exchange and one of the oldest women-led non-profits in the South.

Incredible experience! Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting New Orleans! Emotional but a story you need to hear!

We opted to do the Urban Enslavement tour, which I understand is currently one of the optional tours in October, and we were SO GLAD we did. The tour focused on the daily lives of enslaved women, men, and children who worked at the Hermann-Grima house, their daily tasks, and how they differed from that of slaves who worked the rural plantations. You'll also learn about a little bit of what it was like living in the French Quarter back in the day. If you're in the French Quarter, I strongly recommend it if you can get tickets.

Highly recommend the Herman-Grima house for its cultural and historical significance. We attended the Urban Enslavement in New Orleans tour. The content is informative and impactful. The house itself, including the courtyard and quarters for the enslaved, provide an opportunity to imagine life centuries ago. If you are in New Orleans to expand your cultural and historical knowledge of the city, this is highly recommended.
