Highlights of Charleston Guided Walking Tour

Overview
Our two hour Highlights of Charleston walking tour guides guests through the historic French Quarter and South of Broad neighborhoods of downtown Charleston. Along the way, your guide will describe the long history, unique culture, architecture, and geography of Charleston and the greater lowcountry area, painting a detailed picture of how Charleston's tumultuous past formed the city now beloved by travelers the world over. You'll view some of the city's oldest houses of worship, burial sites, theaters, the forts of Charleston harbor, and the antebellum mansions that look out across the waters of the Cooper and Ashley rivers, among many other historic and picturesque sites. Our guides also offer their expert advice on other activities, restaurants, and bars for guests to explore once they've finished their tour.

Our guide, Bill, provided a thoroughly entertaining review of Charleston's history from mid-1600s to mid-1800s (formation of the city to post-civil war). You will learn about the drivers for Charleston's formation and early economic success, the impact the civil war had on Charleston and some interesting aspects of Charleston's architecture. Bill has given over 7500 tours -- his joy of sharing his extensive knowledge of Charleston's history (and world history of that period) was very evident. He provided not only a good summary of the most important parts of Charleston's history but also gave us many interesting tidbits about Charleston's past and answered many questions posed by tour participants. Don't worry ... you won't be bored if Bill is your guide. Our tour lasted nearly 2 1/2 hours. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes, and you should probably bring some water, particularly when it is hot weather.

The information from the tour was good it was just very focused. I learned lots and lots of terrible things about slavery in Charleston. The problem is that's all I learned. It's not that I don't want to learn about slavery but I do want to learn about other things also

Bill, our tour guide, provided an excellent experience. His in-depth knowledge and a keen interest in being factually correct guided the narrative of Charleston History. He continually provided the context to assist in our understanding of what was presented. We would highly recommend this tour.
