Highlights of Charleston Guided Walking Tour

Overview
Our two hour Highlights of Charleston walking tour guides guests through the historic French Quarter and South of Broad neighborhoods of downtown Charleston. Along the way, your guide will describe the long history, unique culture, architecture, and geography of Charleston and the greater lowcountry area, painting a detailed picture of how Charleston's tumultuous past formed the city now beloved by travelers the world over. You'll view some of the city's oldest houses of worship, burial sites, theaters, the forts of Charleston harbor, and the antebellum mansions that look out across the waters of the Cooper and Ashley rivers, among many other historic and picturesque sites. Our guides also offer their expert advice on other activities, restaurants, and bars for guests to explore once they've finished their tour.

Absolutely LOVED this walking tour! We went with Oyster Point Tours based on a recommendation from a friend and we are so glad that we did. Palmer was super knowledgeable and it was evident that she is very passionate about Charleston's history. I very much appreciated how particular she was about providing a historically accurate tour when she could have easily embellished the stories (spoiler alert: rainbow row doesn't have a super exciting backstory despite how much of an iconic picture it is). I can't believe how much information we got in 2 hours. She welcomed lots of questions and also provided some great restaurant recommendations as well! She is definitely a fast talker though so it takes a little bit of concentration to keep up! Highly recommend this walking tour!

Of all my travels and all the cities Iā€™ve explored worldwide, of all the guides who have led me, I would say that Bill Harris, of Oyster, may have been the very best guide everā€” and I have visited 45 countries and 48 of the 50 states to date. Bill contextualized Charleston in a way I have never seen done on another city tour. He speaks loudly and clearly, in a mellifluous voice, each sentence jammed with smart information. The charm and physical beauty of the City made the tour magical. But it was Billā€™s storytelling that made history come alive and the consequences of our ancestorsā€™ actions tangible. Kudos to this wonderful tour company!

Not only was Bill Harris extremely well versed in the history of Charleston, but his tour was also very engaging, educational, and personable. We walked away being fired up about social justice with through the lens of Charlestonā€™s history. Definitely worth the price!
